One of the most useful illumination systems with the slit lamp is the parallelepiped.  This is a relatively wide beam of light which results in the illumination of a block of the cornea.  The microscope is directly in front of the patientΓÇÖs eye and the light source is approximately 45 degrees from the straight ahead position.  Low to moderate magnification 
  4. can be used to scan the 
  5. cornea with high 
  6. magnification used to 
  7. examine structures in 
  8. detail.
